Natural Riservation of Zingaro
The first destination to visit is the Zingaro Nature Reserve (San Vito Lo Capo). The area consists of high rock walls that sink into the blue of the inlets. There are 7 coves and they look like niches carved into the side of the dolomite walls. It is possible to admire dwarf palms, numerous carob trees, and majestic wild olive trees; at the same time, you may catch a glimpse of a few peasant dwellings. The underwater landscape is also rich in fauna typical of the Mediterranean maquis. At considerable depths, there is also red coral. Although it is not a marine reserve, it is forbidden to bring in fishing rods, guns, and catching instruments of any kind, and you are not allowed to enter the reserve with umbrellas, deckchairs, mats, etc.

Agrigento and the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples
In Agrigento, thanks to the landscape and magical atmosphere by which it is enveloped, the Valley of the Temples Archaeological and Landscape Park becomes a symbol of a land rich in history and beauty. Visitors are captivated by the 1,300 hectares of open space that make it one of the largest archaeological sites in the world, where ancient stories and breathtaking views are breathed in. The park combines ancient history with respect for nature. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, it has as many as 12 temples that are set in an enchanting natural setting. The route begins at the Rupe Atenea, from which it is possible to admire the Temple of Zeus, which could hold as many as 42,000 people. The route guides its visitors through sanctuaries, necropolises, fortifications, Lower Agora and Upper Agora, places of worship or public spaces related to daily, political, and commercial activities. One can also follow the route independently.
Il Museo Vivente del Mandorlo
To protect the wildlife landscape of the Valley, the “Il Museo Vivente del Mandorlo” was established. This protects the approximately 300 traditional varieties of almond trees present, giving a truly sensational scenery. Almond trees here are planted and complemented by olive trees, vines, pistachios, citrus, domestic figs and prickly pears, fruit trees, and ornamental plants. The waterways are a perfect environment for tamarisk, willow, and poplar trees, which provide shelter from the high summer temperatures. Complementing this natural wealth are carob and myrtle plants, which, with the giant “Saracen” olive trees, have been surveyed and listed as Monumental Trees. The park has also begun to produce and market these agricultural products, forging partnerships with local businesses. Numerous projects involve local people, allowing them to create social gardens and agricultural areas and safeguarding the biodiversity of the area through the enhancement of traditional production processes.
