[:it]Sappiamo bene che la nostra Sicilia è piena di giovani di talento e uno di questi è sicuramente Marco Gallo.
Marco Gallo è un giovane regista originario di Agrigento, che ha abbandonato la sua amata città per seguire il suo grande sogno: diventare un regista e riuscire a raccontare le sue storie attraverso i video. Questa passione nacque in lui quando l’artista era ancora adolescente e il padre per puro caso gli regalò una videocamera. Il regista, benché abbia anche progetti al di fuori della Sicilia, non dimentica la sua terra. Infatti ha già in cantiere diversi progetti tutti siciliani per i prossimi mesi. Dopo essere venuti a conoscenza di “1768 giorni”, film che ha girato su Totò Cuffaro, famoso esponente politico siciliano, abbiamo deciso di proporgli una breve intervista.
Ciao Marco! Come ti definiresti, se dovessi utilizzare solo 3 parole?
Determinato, positivo e folle. Avrei voluto scrivere bello e affascinante ma con gli anni qualcosa è andato storto. Scherzi a parte aggiungerei s
icuramente ambizioso.
Ci racconti il tuo percorso e di cosa ti occupi?
Io sono andato via da Agrigento a 18 anni e all’epoca ero determinato, positivo e folle. Ho studiato cinema a Cinecittà con il sogno di raccontare storie, di mostrare il mio modo di vedere le cose e di comunicare. Sono passati dieci anni e non vedo nulla di diverso se non l’esperienza di anni di sacrifici, lavoro ed errori. Questi sono determinanti in un percorso di crescita. E sicuramente qualche soddisfazione negli anni che non guasta mai.
Da dove è nata questa tua passione per la regia?
A 16 anni mio padre mi regalò una videocamerina per le vacanze. Si trasformò in un mezzo di comunicazione per la mia vita. Ho sempre immaginato storie, pensieri, frasi e serviva soltanto un gesto che mi aprisse gli occhi ed un mezzo per raccontarle. Così, quando capii che non avrei vinto un pallone d’oro o una medaglia d’oro olimpica mi ritrovai da solo con la videocamera e capii che non era casuale.
Ci racconti meglio del video su Totò Cuffaro che hai girato?
1768 Giorni è un docufilm che racconta la storia di un ex Presidente che all’apice della sua carriera ha perso tutto il potere che aveva e dopo 1768 giorni ha riaquisito la sua libertà come uomo, una seconda vita. E‘ una storia molto importante secondo me, un pezzo di storia della Sicilia perchè Totò Cuffaro è stato l’unico politico ad aver scontato una pena in carcere, è stato per molti Il Presidente ed oggi viene ancora “osannato“ da molte persone, una cosa stranissima che mi ha spinto a raccontare questa storia. L’ho seguito a Roma, in Sicilia, in Africa…e lì abbiamo vissuto un’esperienza straordinaria e indimenticabile. 1768 GIORNI è sicuramente uno dei miei progetti più importanti.
Puoi anticiparci qualcosa sui tuoi progetti futuri? Avranno sempre come focus la nostra Sicilia?
Uno sì, assolutamente. La Sicilia per me è sempre Casa, ho girato in passato diversi video ad Agrigento, la mia città. E continuerò a farlo. Ma il prossimo video in uscita sarà la mia versione definitiva del mio sguardo su Agrigento e 
provincia e farà parte del progetto “City of the temples“ del fondatore Cristian Moncada , un progetto turistico e culturale innovativo a mio avviso, e verrà presentato il 24-25 Febbraio al Forum del turismo al parco archeologico della Valle dei Templi.
Poi continuo a preparare la seconda edizione del Farm Film Festival, una rassegna cinematografica internazionale di cortometraggi al Farm Cultural Park che si terrà dal 17 al 20 agosto. Non vedo l’ora. Vivo a Roma da dieci anni ma sono e sarò sempre agrigentino e siciliano.
Sicily & Sicilians si ripropone di diffondere le eccellenze siciliane in Italia e all’estero. Tu che sei un giovane siciliano di talento e sei apprezzato in tutta Italia hai qualche consiglio da dare ai tuoi coetanei che come te hanno una grande passione e faticano a realizzarsi?
La prima cosa che consiglio è quella di ascoltare se stessi e guardare in faccia alla realtà. Inutile prendersi in giro sperando che la fortuna arrivi dal cielo, è totalmente inutile dare per scontate le cose se non le proviamo e non diamo il massimo in ciò che facciamo, è inutile fare le cose solo per soldi senza passione e nel momento in cui un giovane impara ad ascoltare se stesso e guardare in faccia alla realtà, inizierà a capire cosa vuole realmente dalla sua vita e poi potrà iniziare a pensare a come ottenere ciò che vuole.
Quando si fatica a realizzarsi è perchè non si hanno le idee chiare e la giusta determinazione, ci vuole molto spirito di sacrificio in quello che si fa, bisogna saper rinunciare a qualcosa, bisogna saper accettare le sconfitte ed essere consapevoli dei propri errori. Mai
cercare di avere sempre ragione, si parte già in torto. Poi, sinceramente, penso che per me non sia ancora arrivato il momento di dare consigli. Per me questo non è un punto di arrivo ma soltanto l’inizio.

Hello Marco! How would you define you, if I were to use only 3 words?
Determined, positive and neutral. I wanted to write beautiful and charming but over the years something has gone wrong. Seriously I add definitely ambitious.
Tell us about your route and what do you do?
I went away from Agrigento to 18 years and at that time I was determined, positive and neutral. I studied film at Cinecittà with the dream to tell stories, to show the way I see things and communicate. Ten years have passed and I do not see anything different if the experience of years of sacrifice, work and errors. These are decisive in a growth path. And certainly some satisfaction in the years that never hurts.
Where did your passion for directing?
At 16 my father gave me a video camera for the holidays. It turned into a means of communication for my life. I always imagined stories, thoughts, sentences and served only a gesture that opened my eyes and a way to tell her. So when I realized that I would not win a gold ball or an Olympic gold medal, I found myself alone with the camera and I realized that it was not random.
Tell us about the best videos of Totò Cuffaro you shot?
1768 Days is a documentary-film that tells the story of a former president who at the height of his career he lost all the power he had and after 1768 days has regained his freedom as a man, a second life. It is a very important story to me, a piece of history of Sicily Totò Cuffaro because it was the only politician to have served a sentence in prison, was for many the President and today is still “celebrated” by many people, a strangest thing that prompted me to tell this story. I followed him to Rome, Sicily, in Africa … and there we lived an extraordinary and unforgettable experience. 1768 DAYS is definitely one of my most important projects.
Can you tell us something about your future projects? They will always have as our focus Sicily?
Yes, absolutely. Sicily for me is always home, I drove past several videos in Agrigento, my hometown. And I will continue to do so. But the next video output will be my final version of my look at Agrigento and city around, and will be part of the “City of the temples” of the founder Cristian Moncada, a tourism project and innovative culture in my opinion, and will be presented February 24 to 25 at the tourism Forum at the archaeological park of the Valley of the Temples.
Then I continue to prepare the second edition of the Farm Film Festival, an international film festival of short films at the Farm Cultural Park to be held August 17 to 20. I can not wait. I live in Rome for ten years, but I am and will always Agrigento and Sicily.
Sicily and Sicilians intends to spread the Sicilian excellence in Italy and abroad. You who are a talented young Sicilian and six appreciated throughout Italy you have any advice for your peers who, like you have a passion and struggle to be realized?
The first thing I recommend is to listen to yourself and face the reality. Needless to poke fun hoping that luck arrivals from heaven, it is totally unnecessary to take for granted the things if you do not try and do not give the best in what we do, it is useless to do things just for money without passion and when a young learn to listen to themselves and face up to reality, he will begin to understand what it really wants from his life and then he can start thinking about how to get what he wants.
When you find it hard to realize it because you do not have clear ideas and the right determination, it takes a lot of sacrifice for what you do, you must be able to give something up, you have to know how to accept defeat and be aware of their mistakes. Never try to be always right, it is already partly wrong. Then, frankly, I think for me it is not yet time to give advice. For me this is not a point of arrival but only the beginning.
